CHROMASCAPE 066

WINTER AFTERNOON AT TURQUOISE LAKE

Leadville, Colorado is the highest incorporated city in the United Sates, perched at 10,158’. I was in Leadville this day to watch my youngest, a passionate Nordic skier, race with Western Colorado University. As a freshman, her experience training and racing with  both the trail running team and Nordic team have given her adventures and forged bonds with teammates that will last a lifetime. As a parent, I couldn’t wish for a better college experience for her. After the Nordic races were over and we hugged and said goodbye, I drove to the nearby Turquoise Lake and made Chromascapes. Standing there, watching the light fade from the day and reflecting on life’s blessings and beauty, I was happy and at peace.

This Chromascape was made in late afternoon light on an overcast February winter day on the dam overlooking Turquoise Lake. The ice fishers that had been scattered across the frozen surface with their colorful ice fishing huts and snow mobiles were packing up and heading home. Clouds moved in and the temperature had dropped to a chilly 20°. The crisp snowy whites and icy blues of the winter day and the frozen stillness of the landscape define Chromascape 066.  ~ Marc
