On a visit to see my kids Western Colorado University, I went to the Gunnison airport at sunrise to make a Chromascape of the runway lights in the morning’s first light. I have two images I like from that morning. The obvious keeper is the image I was there to make of the runway lights against the deep blue twilight sky (Chromascape 036). But that’s not the one I want to share here.

This image was the unexpected result captured when everything was quite bright just before the sun peaked over the cloud bank I’m shooting directly into. My process blends found scenes and colors. Sometimes, like with this image, the blended colors are wildly abstract from what I saw in the landscape that morning. This blending of light and color and the resulting formation of new colors is always fascinating to me.

Chromascape 078 is a surreal scene formed from the many colors of runway lights at Gunnison airport surrounded by the airfield grasses all illuminated by the brightening pale blue sky just before the sun crests the horizon.  ~ Marc
