CHROMASCAPE 081

RED WALLS OF PHANTOM CANYON

I’m changing things up a bit and sharing a vertically cropped Chromascape. Generally, I feel the story of a scene I’m making a Chromascape of is best told in the 3 x 2 horizontal format I normally work in. Occasionally, the elements of a scene I’m describing with a Chromascape are distilled into stronger and simpler visuals when presented as a vertical. This is definitely one of those images.

I was driving on a red dirt road between the red walls of Phantom Canyon looking for a way to create a Chromascape of this beautiful red canyon. It can be surprisingly hard to do this with a scene of monotone color in a confined space lit by the midday sun. At a bend in the road, the canyon walls parted wider on one side to reveal a small meadow. Below the road was a creek bed filled with dried winter grasses and then a red bank climbing to the meadow beyond covered in more dried grasses. A small line of bushes and trees ringed the meadow where the red canyon walls soared skyward crowned in a canopy of green. This is Chromascape 081.  ~ Marc
