I made this image as a late summer storm moved through Crested Butte, Colorado on the evening I dropped my youngest off at Western Colorado University with her two older siblings. It’s a wonderful, yet bittersweet time in a parent’s life when their last child leaves home to find their way in the world. Standing on Mt Crested Butte making this photograph in the rain, my emotions were raw - sadness, loss, pride, hope, and love. This image was made just as the storm broke up, and the skies began to clear while the lights in the valley below came on. The post storm light illuminating the valley surrounded by those beautiful mountains filled me with peace. The final photograph captures everything I was feeling at that moment. A 48” x 32” print of this image lives in my bedroom and continues to bring me peace everyday and is a constant reminder of my kids out there chasing their own dreams. This is Chromascape 001.  ~ Marc
