CHROMASCAPE 099
BEAUTY IN WHAT REMAINS AFTER THE CALDOR FIRE
US 50 was empty as I approached South Lake Tahoe and the predawn sky began to glow with the promise of the day ahead. As it became brighter out, I became aware of the forest all around me. It was all burned . . . totally. I had forgotten about the massive 2021 Caldor Fire. Having spent my childhood recreating here, my feeling of loss on that lonely highway was profound. Driving though that burned forest, the pale sky flickered between the blackened trees. I found a place to stop and just be quiet in this place. I was at once struck by the haunting beauty of the grey light in this charred landscape and my deep need to make a Chromascape. I set up my camera and made some vertical movements up through the blackened trees from the forest floor. This image captures the feelings of loss I was experiencing while at the same time revealing that there is incredible beauty in what remains. This is Chromascape 099. ~ Marc
