SPILLWAY ON THE ARKANSAS RIVER

I routinely drive along the Arkansas River on my way to or from Gunnison, CO where all three of my kids went/are attending Western Colorado University. It’s a beautiful drive in all seasons. I try to make the time to stop along the trip to appreciate the diverse scenes over and between the mountain passes. This image was made on one of these nature stops and walkabouts in Granite, CO. I was trying to find a way to capture the natural movement and deep blue of the Arkansas River while also making a Chromascape of the scene. Ultimately, I found a place above a concrete spillway that gave the blue water some structure and a beautiful contrasting color as it flowed over the spillway. The churning white water after the spillway appears to be moving to the right in this image. This is only because the camera is moving to the left. This is Chromascape 054.  ~ Marc
